The Historic Bed and Breakfast Inn of Crescent City, FL
Few
homes in the United States have the stature to be known by their name, not
address. The Sprague House Bed and Breakfast Inn of Crescent City, Florida is a
magnificent
steamboat gothic Bed
& Breakfast Inn built in 1892.
Sprague
House; a Bed and Breakfast located in the quaint small town of Crescent City,
Florida, the land time has forgotten and where memories are made. Secluded in the
southern end of Putnam County and boarded by 2 lakes, Lake Crescent and Lake
Stella. The Sprague House has served as a lodging establishment since 1902 when
the wife of Dr. Guilford Sprague a physician and the town’s first mayor
purchased the home for his wife Catherine. History tells us the home was opened
as a rooming house to the sea captains and sailors from the steam ships. Guests
have been known to include Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, Booker T.
Washington and William Jennings Bryan.
The Sprague House is located 80
miles south of Jacksonville, 70 miles north east of Orlando and only 50 miles
north of Daytona Beach. Providing an easy trip to escape from the busy city life
back to a town where life is much more simple.
As you enter
the Inn you have an almost perceptible feeling of the people and times that have
gone by. |

and lower porches with a
view of Lake Crescent |
The beautiful
two-story Victorian house (circa 1892) built for James Morrow, a wealthy citrus
baron, has been tastefully renovated to capture the spirit of an earlier time and
is one of the most luxurious Bed & Breakfast homes in the South.
A most unique feature of the Bed & Breakfast is that it is furnished with fine
antiques and beaming with the glow of stained glass windows giving you the feel
of stepping back into time. Whether sitting on the veranda in the summer with
tea or in front of one of the two fireplaces in winter for coffee you can place
yourself back in time when life was simple.
Guestrooms, which are located
on the second floor, all have their own private bath, and have been
exquisitely decorated with period antiques, precious heirlooms and stained glass
windows. Our rooms offer luxurious queen-sized bed, DVD-T.V. combos. Sorry no
telephones in the rooms to provide you with some much needed rest and
relaxation. Bring your favorite book, or browse through the selection of dvd's in
the butler’s pantry. All guest rooms have their own private bath.
Innkeepers know what urban professionals look for and want in a retreat
and they have created it in their B&B. They have cultivated high standards and
Sprague House is the realization of them. Every guest benefits from this vision
and is welcomed.
Enjoy strolls down the
beautiful tree lined streets in this Historical district of town. We have
bicycles on site if you would prefer to cruise around town in old style and
capture the early architecture of some of the older buildings. Don’t forget the
fishing pole so you can enjoy beautiful Lake Crescent. The public
boat ramp and fishing dock are just 300 feet away.
In the evenings relax in
“Sprague’s Hall” our game room with a
complimentary cold beer or glass of wine and play a game darts or
any of the assorted table or card games that are provided. If you prefer to take
it easy, find a niche and enjoy a good book away from everyone, but within reach
if you care to join in.
